Redeveloped Nanxiong Secondary School’s Campus for 1,200 Students

In 2002, Nanxiong Xincheng Secondary School was poorly built and equipped. Each cramped classroom was shared by over 70 enthusiastic students. Principal Chan, who had just been transferred to the school was determined to refurbish the school environment and started to contact numerous charities, but to no avail. Chan learned from the Mayor of Nanxiong that Uncle Fai had been supporting education in their city since 1999; Chan decided to ask for Uncle Fai’s help.

One afternoon in October, Uncle Fai visited the school to access its situation. As Uncle Fai returned to the hotel afterwards, seemingly without any decision of funding the school’s redevelopment, Chan was ready to convince Uncle Fai again before he could confess to his disappointment. Chan recalled when he realized Uncle Fai had indeed agreed to an initial funding of $1 million, “I gripped his hand so tightly to hold my tears of joy.” 

Today, Nanxiong Xincheng Secondary School is equipped with a 7-storey academic building, a Science Building, as well as canteen facilities and a dormitory that can accommodate over 1,000 students at once.
